Job Purpose

The incumbent will be responsible for administrative and logistical arrangements pertaining to the Indigenous Knowledge (IK) Registration System project, including the quality control and security of documented and recorded indigenous knowledge information, in accordance to prescripts of Chapter Six of the 2019 IK Act, 6. The IK Registration System project was formerly known as the Recordal System initiative. The position provides input and administration in managing Indigenous Knowledge and maintaining the necessary curation and preservation practices required to register and organize and maintain IK content on an electronic system.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • A diploma in Library or Information Science, Knowledge Management, Anthropology, Sociology, Heritage or Cultural Management, African Studies, Food Technology, Consumer Science or Horticulture.
  • 1 year coordination/research/consultation experience in projects and/or community projects related to food/food systems, and/or indigenous plants
  • Demonstrable experience with Indigenous Knowledge Systems
  • Proficiency in Afrikaans and English
  • A code 2 driver’s license
  • A B-degree or a BTech will be advantageous

  • Implement IKSDC project activities and complete administrative and logistical functions to ensure that the project is properly administered.

  • Organisation and maintenance of the distributed National Indigenous Knowledge Managements System (NIKMAS)
  • Provide training in support of the NIKMAS system
