Changing Culture, Growing away from Guiding Principles
Sales (Former Employee) –  Landover, MD19 September 2019
A company with a great mission, vision, and so much potential. Unfortunately, its explosive growth due to continued acquisitions, combined with increased competition in the market and ever-demanding shareholder expectations have resulted in quick and messy decision-making amongst senior executives. The mania to improve the company's image on wall street and increase shareholder value has drawn a curtain between senior leadership and department managers. There is a culture of fear amongst mid and lower-level employees due to recent layoffs made as a part of a significant re-org. Senior leadership would benefit from external consultation or coaching on Change Management. No doubt the company will continue to be a leader in the market, but with a less-committed workforce that now greatly distrusts and is fearful of its leadership team.

Fine enough, but don't get attached
DIRECTOR OF ADMISSIONS (Former Employee) –  Lanham, MD12 September 2019
A fast-paced growth company that often feels like a frat-party where everyone there is too old to be in a frat. CEO spends the company's money frivolously and poorly mismanages finances which most recently resulted in him laying off 100 of the most tenured employees in the admissions department without empathy or concern for the decades of hard work they all put in. If you don't drink and/or don't consider yourself a party person, you better find a hobby (and a way to connect/network with your peers), because much of your time will be spent coming up with excuses not to attend the numerous frat-party events you are thrust into and the only way you will stick around is if you've been indoctrinated into the frat elites/drink alcoholically.
Pros
Free snacks, unlimited pto
Cons
no job security, fairly boring and held accountable for things beyond your control

Great colleagues and mission, poor leadership and execution
Senior Brand Marketing Manager (Current Employee) –  Lanham, MD8 September 2019
There are amazing people that work at 2U and if you want work that makes you feel like you are making a difference, its a great company. However, management lacks a deep understanding of the work that individual contributors and middle managers actually undertake, which results in poor strategic decisions and/or unrealistic project deadlines.

Great company, subpar management
Admissions Counselor (Former Employee) –  Lanham, MD29 August 2019
Great company with a lot of opportunities for growth. Very family/student friendly. However still has typical office job cons such as subpar management, dealing with micro-aggressions between coworkers and the admissions counselor position IS a sales position.
Pros
Great events, good pay, flexible work scheduling
Cons
Bad management, sales work

Nightmare
Manager (Former Employee) –  Landover, MD14 August 2019
Words cannot describe the circus that is 2Uinc. While they may appear to have their act together, the wheels are quickly falling off this for-profit education machine—which, by the way, shows major rust in critical areas.

Fun Workplace but Unrealistic Expectations
Admissions Counselor (Current Employee) –  Lanham, MD13 August 2019
Metrics were determined a year in advance and not an accurate reflection of program projections. I applied thinking it was more a counseling job but its 100% a sales job based on numbers, metrics, and stress.

Great Place to Work
Creative Team Intern (Current Employee) –  Lanham, MD1 August 2019
I love 2U. They truly have all the aspects of a great job and company. The atmosphere is incredible and the staff is wonderful. There is always a work-life balance and deadlines are realistic. The benefits are also a huge plus. Unlimited paid time off and volunteer time off are rare, but at 2U, you get both. Management really supports you and understands how to work with you to fill any gaps in knowledge or understanding you may have. They are so understanding and intelligent, it makes the transition for new hires very smooth. I highly recommend looking into working for this awesome company.

Horrible Experience- Worst Job I've Ever Had
Former Student Advisor (Former Employee) –  Denver, CO17 June 2019
People of color-- Stay far away from this place! They will use you in their advertising to give off the appearance that they're diverse and inclusive- don't fall for it. This place is incredibly racist, and even go so far as to plaster fake employee reviews all over the place, especially glassdoor. You'll be lured in with great perks, but if you dare challenge any wrong doings at this company you'll be considered an outcast and they will push you out with no termination process. Majority of the managers here have no previous management experience, and these will be the people you have to report to. Look for another company where diversity is more than an ambition to lure employees in. Especially minority women- you will not succeed at this company. And if you do get a job in upper management, you'll be the token. Be prepared to be blasted as the "token" just to prove a point. The CEO thinks he's a superstar and this place will feel like a frat you didn't sign up for.
Pros
Free snacks

Racism, Discrimination, Harassment, Very Poor Management, Unethical Culture

Clinical Placement Coordinator (Current Employee) –  Lanham, MD6 June 2019
2U is a great place to work, but very metrics driven across the organization. You have to be a fast learner in a fast-paced environment. Training is provided, but you are expected to learn as you go quickly.
Pros
Good benefits and perks
Cons
Unrealistic expectations

Not what it’s all cracked up to be.
Admissions Counselor (Former Employee) –  Denver, CO26 May 2019
They sugar coat a lot of things in the interview but once you are in the role it’s way different and not the job description they have listed. Very competitive and metrics are held to a very high unrealistic standard.

It is not the place they advertise to be.
Admissions Counselor (Former Employee) –  USA10 April 2019
A lot of managers don’t know what they are doing which cause for others to suffer. Managers are unaware of cultural differences, individual approach to people and only care about number. Managers tend to mislead, lie to you and even discriminate for which you end up paying. Poor work culture. The company became too big to care about its employees.

Good Place
Admissions Counselor/Student Support Advisor (Former Employee) –  Landover, MD14 March 2019
Awesome company. Diversity issues were apparent when I came on. Part of the reason for my departure. However I raised smoke while there and was a part of creating the diversity inclusion board. Still going today.

One of the WORST experiences of my life
Admissions Counselor (Former Employee) –  Denver, CO7 September 2018
I worked here for less than a year, and in that time period, I saw a very ugly and unhealthy culture. In Admissions, it's not about your skills or your work ethic, but how "well-liked" you are and if you "fit-in" with the culture. It is a blatantly discriminator environment, where it seems there are more white employees in leadership opportunities and colored employees are there just to meet diversity quotas. There is no respect for colored employees and if you say anything about the lack of opportunity for colored employees, you are blacklisted and kicked out of the company. This company is a fake and does not care about diversity, only sends out empty messages.
Pros
Salary is good for a starting admissions counselor job
Cons
Racism, discrimination, cut-throat culture, high school vibe

Cut-throat and poor management
Student Success Advisor (Former Employee) –  Lanham, MD4 September 2018
When I started my manager was amazing. After she left things went downhill. Being a Student Success Advisor is essentially being a glorified babysitter. 2U scales too quickly and treats lower level employees as if they are disposable.

Major Growing Pains
Senior Admissions Counselor (Current Employee) –  Denver, CO26 August 2018
Ambitious company growing quick with a lot of talent but little ability to move departments or even teams. Very little professional development but it is what you make of it. Diverse but still has a novelty effect.

Pay is below market value.

A great place to work!
Senior Application Coordinator (Current Employee) –  Denver, CO8 August 2018
2U takes great care of their employees and is a great place to work overall. During our busiest times it can get stressful but management and the higher ups do a great job of creating a great culture and atmosphere

Laid-back. But sub-par compensation.
Admissions Counselor (Sales Representative) (Current Employee) –  Lanham, MD25 July 2018
2U is a laid-back company with kind people and a great CEO. But they do not compensate well. If one sales representative exceeds their quota, and their team member misses their quota, they are given the same raise.
Pros
Great people
Cons
Poor compensation system. They're too open about politics.
