Poor morale and poor management
Financial Analyst (Current Employee) –  Illinois25 April 2018
For the past few years morale has dropped considerably due to:
*Lack of recognition
*Lack of respect amongst peers and from managers
*Frequent restructuring
*No direction with defined actionable goals
*Reductions in staff that happen multiple times a year
*Job advancement rarely occurs
*No mentorship program or process in place to grow skills
*Managers do not collaborate with teams; do not enable success for employees
*Inconsistent policies for work life balance and benefits

Observations during employment:
*Restricted by sales skill set and education of current solutions and value; not enough focus on competitive analysis and being aligned with the marketplace
*Solutions cannot complete with current tech and costs from competitors
*Excessive praise and rewards for sales teams and corporate officers but no budget for advancement, promotion, or salaries for support teams
*Teams waste efforts combating each other and processes instead of collaborating to be successful
*"Improvements" lead to extra work instead of expediting sales cycle
*Development teams for system changes do not involve or interact with appropriate departments to ensuring functionality is consistent or improved
*Unnecessary and inconsistent restrictions on flexibility in work arrangements based on management bias
*Not attracting current demographic of job seekers; misleading information of what job will entail and potential for career advancement
Pros
No positive feedback
Cons
Current indecisive business model, lack of confidence in management, poor morale

Company currently undergoing a transformation
Health and Life Sciences Specialist (Current Employee) –  Santa Clara, CA23 April 2018
I love working for Hitachi. The company has a great culture. My manager is awesome. As a healthcare vertical expert, I was expected to support the sales process but was never allowed to be the lead. I was also expected to identify new opportunities and turn them over to the responsible sales person in the areas that I supported.
Pros
great culture
Cons
currently undergoing major changes

Not enough time
Solutions Sales Representative (Former Employee) –  Atlanta, GA23 April 2018
Most days are spent chasing down items to be complete. Too much CYA , most folks aren't willing to take a risk as it might come back on them. More focus should be on solving the issue for our customers. way too many levels of approval for changes on deals < 20k

Bottom line is too much bureaucracy
Pros
work from home
Cons
long days, too much infighting over pricing

Lost in transition
Customer Service (Former Employee) –  Eastern US30 March 2018
Where to begin? Spent years with the company. No pay increases after third year. Witnessed many questionable leadership decisions. They missed the move to the cloud that AWS and Oracle capitalized upon. Worked almost seven days a week for the last couple of years. Too much to do, not enough people to do it. Support teams were continuously overburdened and response times suffered. Company is amidst a transition to a services company. Current management team lack the requisite emotional intelligence and leadership abilities. This direction poses more questions than answers.

Use to be a good company when it was Pentaho
Business Analytics Support Engineer (Current Employee) –  Orlando, FL28 March 2018
Hitachi is incorporating its culture on Hitachi Vantara which use to be Pentaho Corp. prior to acquisition. It's now a large corporation culture. Morale is low as job security is now uncertain due to reorganizations.
Pros
unlimited vacation (new), a good technical learning environment

Company in transition, confusion in the workforce
Employee (Current Employee) –  Santa Clara, CA13 February 2018
In my time at Hitachi there always seemed to be too much process for the work to be done. Also, with the transition to a new business focus, the message to employee's was to be willing to learn new things with the change in business, but not ever given the opportunity. Instead layoffs and uncertainty plague the company.

They started out good.
Senior Project Manager (Current Employee) –  Dallas-Fort Worth, TX30 January 2018
I worked from home, which always impacts your work/life balance negatively. Initially they were a great company to work for with decent benefits. After 3 rounds of layoffs, and now org changes in management they just aren't the same company anymore. The PM's and technical people are a great bunch of folks to work with; easy going, but hard working. New management has come in recently that have made it just miserable to stay there. The company is in the midst of a rebrand and that always is stressful.

Added to that they do not have a formal PMO so they have no direction regarding quality management or risk management which leaves them very vulnerable.

I worked in professional services delivery, which in a way was satisfying as you get to see the end results of a customer's storage implementation. The hard part was the lack of direction I ever really got and the fact that I'd been told I was promotable, but was never told what I needed to improve on to make that happen.

They also will NOT negotiate with you on starting salary. Their line is "take it or leave it".
Pros
Cell phone discounts, discounted tickets, allowance for home office, good people
Cons
Lots of layoffs, reorg in progress, management is in flux, misaligned with their current values

Great prospects but diminishing workforce
Pre-Sales Consultant (Current Employee) –  London23 January 2018
Great work/life balance but not enough young talent being nurtured and brought through the company. The company is undergoing drastic change (merging of three companies) which will eventually work out for the good, but many employees are resisting the change, it still feels like 3 different companies.

Great place to work
Consultant (Current Employee) –  San Francisco, CA21 November 2017
Currently the company is going through some changes merging HDS, Hitachi Insights, and Pentaho to form Hitachi Vantara. With those changes brings some uncertainty about the future and its workforce. Hitachi offers excellent benefits and compensation. Work life balance is uneven with many hours spent on engagements away from family but you're fairly compensated for this. Some management are not engaged with their employees and a true employee development process is lacking, but to Hitachi's credit an employee development process is being created. Under the right manager and circumstance this opportunity could provide longevity if you are capable of dealing with the uneven work/life balance. I would recommend this company to someone else.

Very fast paced and constantly changing organization. Challenged by the work load and keeping up with the product line. Company is in transition mode now to remain competitive with new products.
