Great employees but minimal advancement
Client Support Centre Banker (Current Employee) –  Johannesburg, Gauteng30 July 2018
The culture and vibe in the CSC is great, however leadership has its cracks and hardwork goes unrecognized and unrewarded. There is a lot of red tape and barely any career advancement , therefore most grads end up leaving the company as a whole because opportunities are scarce. The environment is high pressure and there is grey areas when it comes to different teams and their scope of work. There is also a lot of double standard when it comes to moving out of the CSC or discipline. Relationships are your currency.
Pros
Wellness Centre sessions and people.
Cons
Lack of growth, bias towards certain religions

Great Enviroment
Reconcilliations Administrators Team Leader (Former Employee) –  Johannesburg20 May 2018
It was always face paced, and there was never a dull moment or moments where you feel there's nothing to do there was always work to keep you preoccupied which one of most things i enjoyed about working at Investec. I learnt indepence and pushing myself to my best capability, the management is very supportive and are there to assist with non work related issues.Culture is open honest dialogue, and open door policy, you can easily set up a meeting with COO.
The hardest, i would say the hours put in but this was ofcourse rewarded. What enjoyed most is that you were allowed the freedom to be your own boss an entepreneur.

Private banker for high net worth clients (Former Employee) –  Cape Town, Western Cape19 February 2018
A typical day at work includes servicing existing client needs via email, meeting new potential clients and looking for new opportunities. The hardest part of the job is managing the large client bases, with different client profiles and needs, while still looking for new clients.

Teaching Kids who has special Needs
Business Analyst (Former Employee) –  Gauteng25 September 2017
Each child is different and unique, some learn faster than others.
Some have learning difficulties.
You need to be patient as each child learning has the potential but it is how you as a teacher react to teach a particular child.
If you do not believe the child can learn the child wont
Even if everyone doesnt believe this child can learn but I do I will go the extra mile
The most enjoyable part of this job is to watch the child grow and learn and see what people thought was impossible is possible and more :)
Pros
the smile on the child face whilst he\she learns
Cons
You have to try and try till you succeed

I.T.S.P / Server Manager / Senior DBA (Former Employee) –  Sandton, Gauteng13 September 2017
Investec on a whole is an amazing company. It is young and dynamic, the culture did change over the years within the business units which did make it difficult to adapt to the new expectations and personality types.

they are willing to advance individuals who step forward and can be seen as a great experience on advancing your career within a major Private Bank

Really awesome organisation
REID Consultant (Former Employee) –  Johannesburg North, Gauteng25 January 2017
I really loved working for Investec. Everything is amazing, I just hated my role. Would love to go back in a better role. Its very professional, but can come across as snotty, the chances of career advancement are there if you work hard and really network... build your brand.

They have awesome benefits and its easy to get know how on a subject or department you're not privy to because the employees are open to constructive work conversations.

Entrepreneurial spirit
Transaction Manager (Current Employee) –  Sandton, GP4 November 2014
A typical day at work is the management of the profile of lending deals I have. That can range between any finance and accounting and lending administration to credit and legal.
Some work hours are long and month end is hectic. You are remunerated for hard work but the company requires you to first prove yourself over 1 year or 6 months so until that time your salary isn't market related. The bonuses are worth it after your first year and receive lots of training or all type of skills whether it is personal or work related.
Pros
Training, no hierarchy, bonuses, Employee Assistance Program
Cons
Long hours, pressure, little change in salary for internal moves
