I learnt how to work with diverse groups of people. To communicate in a way that ended up with selling products to our customers as well as finding ways to become more comfortable with human touch as i was required to demonstrate products to the customers.
The hardest part was sometimes Management not listening to their staff and not always fixing the issues we had.
There are many things that have upset me about working at Lush, hours are so long and pay is terrible. The store management has no respect for the part time employees. Where there are issues, if you try discuss them the manager makes you feel like you’ve done something wrong. They make promises and go back on them - pretending that they didn’t make them. They change hours without checking with staff first.
My experience in the beginning was amazing but everything started getting way too hostile when the new manager was hired.
The staff also no longer gets free products. The expired items go to complete waste
Pros
Good Knowledge about cosmetics.
Cons
Long hours, no respect, broken promises, hostile, emotionally traumatic.
Salary was bad and never came under review. There was no HR to support workers or listen to their need. Issues always became personal and lack of communication and direct conversations led to hostility
Pros
In store manager was lovely and always made work manageable and was always supporting staff.
Cons
Long hours. Bad pay. Lack of leadership. Personal conflict.
Sales Assistant (Former Employee) – Cavendish Square, Western Cape – 17 June 2017
A typical morning shift consisted of prepping the store for the coming day. This included, but was not limited to, ensuring full stocking of the shelves; preparations of interactional products; ensuring store appearance and function was up to standard, such as registers and cleanliness. The evening shift consisted of the continuous upkeep of the store, and lock up. Of course, the role of sales assistant meant that along with these responsibilities customer interaction and product knowledge was of the utmost importance. The workplace was one of warmth and respect. There was some tension with the management but not much and only as a result of a low staff number at one particular point in time. It was demanding in the amount of energy put into everyday in order to ensure an enjoyable and insightful experience for customers, however, that was also the most rewarding part.
Pros
Access to new products, warm atmosphere, stimulating

Lush is a beautiful company and such a fun place to work, but the bureaucracy is stifling. Cliques and pettiness in management make it very difficult to feel comfortable in the workplace.
