Amazing Brand with long history of positive impact on South Africa
executive (Former Employee) –  Cape Town, Western Cape5 February 2019
A long established retailer whose founder and family are still involved in the day to day. Culture is driven of the philosophy of the customer is queen and doing good is good business. I joined in 2008 and worked through a sustained period of change for the company which had seen sustained aggressive growth for 40 years but had not invested in the future. So big initiatives were centralising distribution, centralising buying, centralising marketing, implementing SAP, launching a loyalty programme and becoming more professional in ways of working leading to cultural change. As a result every day was challenging with great highs and deep lows but immensely rewarding to see the business thriving. The impact of the family is material in a positive way with a lot of the founding culture remaining in the organisation. The hardest part of the job was the cultural change required to implement the change. The business was moving from a fully decentralised organisation to centralised with regional focus. This was difficult for some as most of the colleagues had been with the business for many years.

Bakery Assistant (Former Employee) –  East London, Eastern Cape9 January 2019
Pick n Pay was fun. The pressure of customer orders being out on time and other bakery products to be top quality with all the magic that happens in the production line only challenges you to be on top of your game. Customer satisfaction is the reward for all the hard work that happens in any Bakery especially at Pick n Pay.
Pros
Subsidised Lunches and Transport

Stressed out but fun place to work
cashier and sales assistant (Former Employee) –  Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape7 January 2019
As a cashier at pick n pay I was working under a whole lots of pressure you had to deal with different types of customers . The main thing we as cashiers had to focus on was customer service and always had a smile on your face. All pressure was on the cashiers especially the management team They always focused on us as frontline cashiers reason being we worked with customers n the money of the shop so all pressure in the whole of the store n focus was mostly on us
Pros

shelf packer (Former Employee) –  Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape27 November 2018
Typically I would walk onto the floor and check my shelves , then start by cleaning the shelves , then get stock from the back to pack. The important thing was to remember to arrange the shelf on the expiration date basis
